Norton (part of Gen Digital) is a widely used consumer security suite whose higher tiers often bundle additional tools — commonly a VPN and cloud backup — alongside core antivirus. Plans generally cover Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
Below we look at what each tier includes and who benefits from an all-in-one bundle. Plan names and prices change often, so check the renewal price on Norton’s official pages before you buy.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Higher tiers can consolidate several tools (antivirus, VPN, backup) in one subscription
- Cross-platform coverage across desktop and mobile
- Well-documented, widely used consumer apps
Limitations
- Bundled extras add value only if you’ll actually use them
- First-term pricing generally increases at renewal
- Tier contents differ by region and change over time — verify before buying
Who it’s for
- People who want antivirus plus VPN and backup in one place
- Users comfortable paying for a consolidated bundle
Who should look elsewhere
- Users who already have a preferred standalone VPN or backup
- People who only want lightweight, core antivirus
Is Norton worth it?
It can be — for the right household. Norton’s value is consolidation: antivirus plus extras such as a VPN and cloud backup in one subscription, across Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. If you would otherwise pay separately for those tools, a bundle can save money and hassle.
It’s poor value if you would only use the antivirus. Windows already includes real-time protection, and a higher tier full of extras you never open costs more every year at renewal. The honest test: list the extras you’d actually use, then price the tier that includes them at its renewal rate.
What Norton sells in the US
Norton's US plan comparison lists Norton AntiVirus Plus for one device, Norton 360 Standard and Norton 360 for Gamers for three, Norton 360 Deluxe for five, Norton 360 Premium for ten, and Norton 360 with LifeLock for ten or more.
- AntiVirus Plus and every Norton 360 plan include Scam Protection — Safe Web, Safe SMS, the Norton Genie AI assistant and Deepfake Protection — plus Smart Firewall and Password Manager.
- Every Norton 360 plan adds a VPN with no traffic cap (three devices on Standard, five on Deluxe, ten on Premium) and Dark Web Monitoring.
- Cloud backup grows with the tier: 2 GB on AntiVirus Plus and Standard, 50 GB on Deluxe and Gamers, 100 GB on Premium and 250 GB or more with LifeLock.
- Deluxe and Premium add Privacy Monitor, which Norton offers in the US and Canada only; Deluxe also includes Parental Control.
US-only: Norton 360 with LifeLock
The LifeLock bundles are sold in the US. Norton says every Norton 360 with LifeLock tier adds identity monitoring, credit monitoring from at least one bureau, U.S.-based identity restoration specialists and compensation for identity theft victims, and comes with Scam Protection Pro, which adds Safe Email and Safe Call. Reimbursement limits differ by tier — read them on the plan page — and Norton notes that it doesn't monitor all transactions at all businesses.
Norton plans and renewal: what to check
Norton sells several tiers that differ mainly in device count and bundled extras. Prices change, so instead of quoting them, here is what to check on the official plan page before you buy:
- How many devices the tier covers — and whether phones and tablets count toward the limit.
- Which extras are included on that exact tier: VPN, cloud backup, identity features.
- The renewal price, not only the first-term price, and whether auto-renewal is on by default.
- Whether the features you’re paying for exist on every platform you use, not just on Windows.
Norton’s refund and renewal terms
Norton's US subscription terms: plans renew automatically unless the renewal is cancelled before billing; annual renewals can be charged up to 35 days before the renewal date, and annual subscribers get an email with the renewal price beforehand. Renewal prices may be higher than the first-year price. Norton's refund policy gives a full refund within 60 days of payment on annual subscriptions — renewal payments included — and within 14 days of the first purchase on monthly ones.
Norton on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android
Norton's apps cover Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Cloud Backup works only on Windows, and Norton lists Cloud Backup, Parental Control and SafeCam as not supported on a Mac.
Norton documents apps for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, so one multi-device plan can cover a mixed household. As with most suites, feature depth is typically greatest on Windows; the Mac and mobile apps focus on what each platform allows.
On iPhone, Apple’s app sandboxing means no security app can scan other apps the way antivirus does on a PC — mobile protection centers on web and phishing protection and the bundled extras. If one feature is the reason you’re buying, confirm it exists on each of your devices.

Our verdict
Norton is a reasonable choice for people who genuinely want several security tools under one subscription and prefer not to assemble them separately. If you won’t use the bundled VPN or backup, a leaner plan may serve you better.
